Rain Forest Aquaculture’s traceability system encompasses the entire production chain, including the fish farming stages, processing plant and transportation to market.
The implementation of a unique code for each lot of fish (lot number) permits the identification and the tracking of all Rain Forest Aquaculture products after shipping. This data allows for a follow up of the complete production history from packaging back to the reproduction stage of the fish.
LABELING AND TRACEABILITY
Costa Rica is in an advantageous location because of its proximity to the U.S. market. Fresh tilapia is sent by air and arrives in the US within 3 hours ready to be distributed throughout the North America.
Furthermore, there is a large supply of air cargo services available, The high frequency of flights comes from the importance of exporting perishable goods (such as tilapia, fresh cut flowers, fruits and others) to the country´s economy.
Our information-gathering and processing systems enable us to improve the efficiency and allow for a daily harvesting schedule based upon of actual sales orders. The data is linked to inventories of live fish in ponds means our inventories literally "swim”.
Regarding the processing of the tilapia our modern processing plant combines the latest in automation along with longtime experience in fish processing. This allows the live fish to be processed in under an hour into fine fillets, properly packed at the optimal temperature to preserve its quality.
Our system allows for fish to be harvested in the morning and to be distributed in the consumer markets within 24 and 48 hours. A major benefit when it comes to freshness and available shelf life.
